We are exceptionally proud to congratulate our Principal Becky Chilcott on her appointment as the WA Region Director for the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA).
Becky takes over from retiring WA Region Director Paul Dennis, a member of the first AGDA Board and key architect in the organisation’s recent transition to become a limited company. As a long time AGDA member, Becky is incredibly excited about continuing the good work of her predecessor.
She has already been making waves in the AGDA community with her energy and passion for the industry, and she has big plans for the role. Along with strengthening AGDA’s position as a professional authority on a national level, Becky has proposed a broadening of its international exposure. Guest speakers, workshops and forums would form the basis for a vibrant international Continued Learning program.
This is not Becky’s first leading role in the design industry. She is also a Director of the International Society of Graphic Designers (ISTD), a position she sees as the perfect complement to her new role at AGDA. With their mutual focus on education, design culture and professional relationships – both national and international – she believes that her driving roles at ISTD and AGDA will be of immense benefit to both.
This is a very exciting time for Becky and rest of the team here at Chil3. We’ll be posting updates here and on Facebook, so be sure to subscribe for all the latest developments!
London-based Grafik Magazine asked Becky to choose a letter for their Letterform series. Read why she chose Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk Light ‘2’ here
The Design Kids asked us to put together a workshop and, of course, it had to be something on typography. So, for our first workshop, something fun.
We were delighted to be interviewed by The Design Kids. Give Becky the opportunity to talk about typographic design, the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD) and give advice to students and graduates — be sure you are sitting comfortably.
We are delighted to welcome Bradley Pinkerton as Chil3’s 2014 student intern.
A recent graduate of Central Institute of Technology, Bradley completed his Advance Diploma in graphic design in 2013 and is now studying for his BA in Graphic Design at Curtin University.
Bradley will fit in well as he is passionate about typography, printed matter and all things design. He is a committee member of AGDA WA, a Perth contributor for The Design Kids website and is the designer for the a local artist run initiative called HARD WORK CLUB.
As Chil3’s intern, Bradley will be working on our charity projects, namely the Annual Report for Australian Doctors for Africa.
Wesfarmers 100: The People’s Story was launched at Frasers in Kings Park in Perth on Tuesday 18 February.
Stated by Wesfarmers as a ‘landmark publication’ we were delighted to be involved with the design and production (via UWA Publishing) of this book written by award-winning author and former newspaperman, Peter Thompson.
‘It is a story of how a Western Australian farmers’ co-operative became one of the nation’s top ten companies. Based on interviews with scores of past and present staff and the families of the company’s founding fathers, Wesfarmers 100: The People’s Story 1914-2014 highlights the bold leadership and the many colourful and sometimes controversial events which have shaped Wesfarmers on the journey to its first centenary.’ Wesfarmers

Chil3 Student Internship 2014
Designers love to collect beautiful objects and for us that’s generally printed material, old or new, large or small. Some things just take your eye and you have to have them. We have been collecting things for a long time and thought we would share these and talk about what we love about them. Isabel and Becky will take turns to show what inspires them and why. Our series From the Archives, begins with a selection from Becky, an exquisite book, well sort of a book. Rolywholyover, A Circus by John Cage, an exhibition companion piece, is an metal box, designed in consultation with Cage himself, containing an extraordinary array of postcards, photographs, drawings, musical scores, recipes, letters and booklets. Cage said in discussing the box, “The world is vast: give the impression that the materials are endless . . .”.
We will be posting these on our Facebook page.
WASO’s 2014 Season brochure will be arriving in letterboxes tomorrow.
For the past four months we have been working closely with WASO to produce the 2014 season identity, brochure and other collaterals announcing internationally renowned Asher Fisch’s arrival as Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor.
For this second collaboration with New Zealand typographer, Annette O’Sullivan, we have used one of the antique stencil sets from her collection. This raw typography is all lovingly hand set and accompanies the beautiful photography.
We will be showcasing this project over the coming weeks.
We are delighted to announce that that Isabel Kruger joined Chil3 in August.
A graduate of the renowned University of Applied Sciences in Augsburg, Germany, Isabel has built her design expertise with over 15 years of communication design work both in Australia and internationally. Her skills cover the breadth of publication and typographic disciplines, with experience in boutique design firms, branding agencies, culture and the arts.
Isabel has a unique international perspective on design and brings out the beauty in the finest details of her work at Chil3.
