Deb's Cookbook

Deb’s Cookbook Team

Deb’s Cookbook team could not have chosen a better design partner than Chil3. Every step of the way, they were devoted to making this book something extra special; from suggesting we use crowdfunding to raise capital, through to developing the book layout and design, and onto providing us with fabulous people like Jessica Shaver (photographer) and Ursula Nairn (food stylist).

Becky and the team at Chil3 had immediate rapport and sensitivity towards this book tribute, designed to remember our late friend Deb Robinson. They understood the depth of friendship involved, and showed patience, understanding and passion for this project. Becky’s attention to detail ensured the budget was well-managed and the six women in the team remained on track. More importantly, Chil3 created a design that perfectly reflected the lovely person we wanted to honour, truly sharing our vision. Chil3 went above and beyond to make this project sensational.

Deb’s Cookbook is a beautifully finished product that has been well received by Deb’s family, friends, and wider community, and will raise significant funds for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

We Must Ever Be Friends

Pam Casellas, Editor of We Must Ever Be Friends

I believe the St Hilda’s old Scholars Association was blessed to have Becky Chilcott develop the book design for our Centenary book We Must Ever Be Friends. She understood a difficult brief perfectly and immediately, and showed endless grace and patience in dealing with people for whom publishing was a new world. Not only did she go the extra mile by visiting the school several times to choose material for photographing, but she was always willing to update our committee on progress and to ensure that everyone felt part of a process that was very important to the association. The end result far exceeded expectations and has been warmly received by members and supporters. As the book’s editor, it was a pleasure to work with Becky and I am extremely grateful for her good humour, her diligence and remarkable attention to detail.

Tied with a Ribbon: Made from the Heart

Bev Ireland, President of the Perth College Old Girls’ Association

Becky Chilcott of Chil3 was the publisher and developed the book design for our coffee table cookbook, Tied With A Ribbon: Made from the Heart, produced for the Centenary of our Association. We were self-publishing and were recommended to her. At all stages, Becky was an inspiration. She listened to what we wanted, made suggestions to enhance the book and was a joy to work with. Becky knows and loves books and has a great understanding of what will and won’t work. Her love of typography and attention to detail meant that we truly enjoyed working with Becky and she has helped us to produce a beautiful book of which we are most proud.

Jane Whitely: Body of Work

Jane Whitely, artist

Becky Chilcott of Chil3 recently developed the book design for my Department of Culture and the Arts funded monograph Jane Whiteley Body of Work and has produced a stunning book beyond my expectations. She has been a patient, sensitive and delightful person to work with and I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She has discussed my artistic vision with care and sensitivity, and professionally negotiated the requirements of the design within the confines of the budget. She has produced the book efficiently and on time and has sought uncompromising quality of design and materiality. She inspires with her commitment to excellence in typography.

UWA Publishing

Professor Terri-ann White, Director, UWA Publishing

I believe that books need the best attention they can get to allow them to flourish and succeed. Good editorial and book design is crucial. …When we have too much work to do, we are blessed to have one of Australia’s best book designers in Fremantle. Becky Chilcott has designed a number of our books and book covers. She is so clever and intuitive, as well as inventive and flexible, and these ventures into working with Becky remind me that if designers ruled the world we’d be in better shape. That raw intelligence always enables a delightful collaboration.

Deckchair Theatre

Angela Chapman, Creative Director, Deckchair Theatre

Becky at Chil3 is a joy to work with. She simply ‘gets it’ each time we create a new piece of work together. At Chil3 they are on time, with no attitude, just lots of great ideas and they look after your dreams. Our brief to Becky for our annual brochure is ‘make it so beautiful and exciting that people won’t throw it away.’ She realises that brief every time.

The Garden Gurus

Trevor Cochrane & Neville Passmore

We wanted our book Delish to encourage and inspire people to grow their own fruit and veggies and share with them some of our favourite recipes. Chil3, through their extensive book design development process, captured the spirit of family and sharing perfectly. Becky helped us through the entire process with sometimes difficult deadlines, organising photoshoots through to publication. With Chil3’s creative partnership we have another high quality publication to add to our growing library.

Revelation Film Festival

Richard Sowada, Director

There is no doubt that Chil3’s design of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival has had a real impact on the success of the event. For Rev, Becky’s work has translated into real box office and for the event, it’s been the fastest growing film festival in the country since our partnership. Chil3’s work is key to this—no question.

A Story to Tell

Extract from a letter received from Ian G Green, previously design director of international publishing companies in Melbourne and owner of a production company in Hong Kong.

I have just purchased a copy of A Story to Tell by Laurel Nannup, and I wanted to tell you it is one of the best designed books I have seen for many years. It follows the traditional design rules for books, but has a very contemporary look…. I do hope you will continue to develop more book design and produce more books.

Purist Gallery

Max Ball and Penny Hudson

Chil3 developed a ‘big picture’ visual design concept for our gallery with which we are delighted. Her concepts for the gallery are perfect for us. Chil3 knew exactly what we wanted—even if we didn’t!

We thoroughly recommend Chil3 as a superb design firm for any new business, or to create a new look for existing firms—small or large.

Bauwerk Colour

Bronwyn Riedel, Director

We love everyone at Chil3.

Without Chil3 our business just would not be what it is, they have solely created the look of our Bauwerk brand, they are unrivaled in their ability to translate ideas and at Bauwerk we would not be able to grow in the way we wished to without their help.

As we expand they are always available to be an integral part of what we are aiming to create, it is truly a partnership we value and hope to have way into the future.

Plus they make a wonderful cup of tea every-time I go there.
